I’ve been a little bit excited about 300 since seeing the trailer ages ago. By “a little bit” I mean “a lot”.

There’s a point in my enthusiasm for anything where every slightest reference or snippet of information about it will set me off all over again. The odd thing about 300 is that while I think it’s the last truly great example of what Frank Miller can do visually, I never finished reading the books… they still sit somewhere in a comic box… something about the story just didn’t set me off at the time. Dean Haspiel says something similar in a recent post which struck a chord with me. For me, I think part of it was that Miller wasn’t showing the nuance or subtlety that my palate demanded at the time. Also, you know, sandals didn’t interest me nearly as much as gumshoes. Sin City was much more my speed.

But a recent re-watch of Dawn Of The Dead got me very hyper about Zack Snyder making 300, and the trailers pumped me up more and more. This morning, this short article at the BBC set me off, and reminded me that I’d saved something about 300 a while back, for later inspection. It’s a comic-to-film comparison, and you should bear in mind when you look at it that these are just the shots that the guy found from the trailer… god only knows how close the movie is going to be. But it’s pretty amazing viewing.

(I also found this similar article at Filmrot.com doing the same for Sin City, which has smaller images, but is worth a look.)
