Xander Bennett, one of my fellow contributors at Elephant Words, has been at the San Diego Comic Con this past weekend. He has been blogging his experiences.

But of course, I’m only talking about it because I wanted an excuse to post that horrifying picture…

Day One

Day Three
Joss Whedon Bonus Post!!

(This story was my first pass at this week’s Elephant Words assignment. My final entry is up here.)

“Oh, for the love of…” exclaimed Jim.

Seeing an imminent crisis of near infinite proportions, Artie put a hand to Jim’s side and steered him away from the centre of the precinct.

Their progress was slightly hampered by the endless human river of teenagers, push-chairs and city centre touts, but Artie, well versed in the traversing of thoroughfares and the general dodging of mindless obstacles, ably got them through the throng. She guided her boyfriend into the shelter of a service doorway between the thumping dullness of one of the local HMV stores and the perpetual thriftiness and ubiquity of Woolworths. He slumped down onto his haunches, back against the filthy door.

On this day in history, she thought, and in any city in England, there is a Woolworths all but identical to this one. (more…)

My girl just started reading the final Harry Potter book. She has decided to take her time and really enjoy it, but I suspect that excitement and the threat of spoilers from idiots will force her to consume it quickly.

For anyone who might be interested, from a scientific or just curious perspective, I’m going to endeavour to track her emotional state and progress through the book using my Twitter account… look in Digital Breadcrumbs on the right hand side of the website. I promise you now, no spoilers… if there’s a moment where she starts crying uncontrollably or something, I won’t tell you whereabouts in the book it happens.

Okay, not really a spoiler… after all, everyone has heard that at least one major character dies in this book, but…

Here is a peculiarious piece of internet craziness for those of you who are going to be reading Harry Potter, but don’t also read Boing Boing (who found it), and may be needing grief counselling:

[Counselor name] is available to speak with parents and children, as well as the media, on how to cope with feelings of grief and loss. This is a particularly timely issue with the release of the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows scheduled for release this Saturday, July 21, 2007. Recent articles have sparked rumors suggesting that one or more main characters will die.

I don’t know… maybe I’m getting lazy, but there seem to have been a few of these items cropping up that I don’t feel the need to add any scathing commentary to.

Lazy, or just old and tired? You tell me.

Dear readers,

You know how much I already love you all right now?

Well, imagine how much more I will love you when you go over to www.elephantwords.co.uk and start reading?

And imagine how much more you will love me!

Elephant Words is a new website that will feature six fresh and inventive writers interpreting and being inspired by one new image every week. New writing will be posted every day, and there are no limits on the styles or genres that the contributors can use, so it will be worth visiting regularly to see what they have come up with!

To start reading new and exciting writing, go here:
http://elephantwords.co.uk

To find out more about the Elephant Words project, go here: http://elephantwords.co.uk/about/

And to start giving feedback (which we would love to hear) go here:
http://elephantwords.co.uk/forum/

All of the contributors are very enthused about working on the project, and some weeks, they will be worked pretty hard (just look at the schedule over there!), so please go along and offer them your support.

Hello, all…

Apologies for the long absence… those of you that I am in immediate contact with will know that I have not been lazy… In fact, I’ve been busy working on a web project that may interest some of you.

It’s called Elephant Words, it’s at elephantwords.co.uk, and it’s quite an ambitious project, for me. There’s a full explanation of what the site is about over on the site itself, but it’s basically a place that, six days a week, will feature new and interesting interpretations of a single image by six varied and exciting writers.

This week I am running auditions to fill out the opening roster, and from Sunday 15th of July you can come along and read to your heart’s content.

Well, one piece a day. So unless your heart is content to not read very much, I may have been overstating things, until we’ve got a bit of an archive of writing, anyway.

I’d love to know what you think, either in the comments for this post, or in the Elephant Words forum itself.

Anyway, now that the major chunk of development is done over there, I should be able to spend a little more time over here, with any luck. Look forward to more assorted Nixsight nonsense, bitches…!
