Dan Frick is a music artist that I have never heard of, but will be looking out for from here on.
Felix Jung is… well, I’m not sure what Felix Jung is. Very clever, I reckon. And friends with Dan.
Felix has taken a beautiful song by Dan Frick, and done some magic with it, and made a totally addictive and evocative ‘video’ for the song. The thing that makes the clip so addictive? It is generated from images grabbed from Flickr; certain lyrics in the song are used to select a photo by Flickr tag and show it in time to the song.
You can view it here. It takes a while to load, and if it stalls, give it a refresh. Its worth the wait.
What you end up with is an ever-changing, hypnotic tableau of images that sometimes seem like non-sequiturs, but often shed new light on the song that you are listening to.
I’d love to see the guts of this experiment… I suspect that it can be relatively easily adapted to many songs, and some – particularly strongly lyrical songs with a slower tempo - would make endlessly reviewable music clips that give real value to careful viewing, but also work well as ‘cultural wallpaper’.
