Elephant Words – 50YFN Interface
Last week was my turn to post an image to Elephant Words. I made it myself. It is this:

Everyone did a nice job. Mine went last. In a quite exciting twist, it has been posted at 50 Years From Now almost simultaneously! I am awesome! (As is Monk at that site, of course.)
It is called “The Boulevard Of Broken Glass”. As an Elephant, it’s here, as a slice of the England of 50 Years From Now, here. Here’s a taste:
In some parts of town, the ground crunches underfoot – accumulated years of discarded glass, broken and ground down, coat the concrete pavements. The city gave up on maintaining these streets. Crossing the imaginary boundary from nTown to nHigh, Siân stepped onto one of these glittering pathways. Like a native, she took it in her stride.
I haven’t read any of the posts this week yet… The image is scaring the hell out of me with the lack of ideas I am having based on it, and I don’t want to confuse myself with the other writers’ smart thinkin’.

- Start new job in a matter of minutes. Smart black trousers, bought saturday, already covered in white dog hair. #
- First day going well. Mostly talking, learning organisational stuff. New colleague has a dalmatian too, so dog hairs a known quantity. #
Elephant Words – Driving Baby Home
So, yeah, I’ve been a bad blogger. I failed to tell you all about Elephant Words a couple of weeks back. I quite liked my story, too, so I figured I should tell you about it.
It’s, like, totally inspired by this photograph by Rol Hirst:

It is called “Driving Baby Home”
You can get to it through the simple internetual magic of clicking either on the title or excerpt up above. It will warm the cockles of your heart, and put you right in the mood for feeling glum about Christmas – my favourite activity in early January, and hopefully now yours, too!
2008 – In With The New
So here it is, 2008, in all its glory.
So far, it feels pretty much like 2007. Only, you know, older.
The transition between years is going to really hit me hard in a few days – On Monday, I start a new job at a new employer, after 5 years at my current place. The job is at the University that I studied at, so it won’t be a completely new environment, and J has been working there for a while, now, so I won’t be completely alone. But it’s still a little nerve-wracking.
We’re also having to move again, some time in January. Our landlord is having some kind of life-crisis, and needs to sell up. We got our two months notice, but when one of those months is December, you might as well not have it, when it comes to rental properties. So far, the process of looking has been incredibly soul-destroying and not very productive, but hey, you know, a new year! Hope springs eternal…
And as soon as possible after we move, I’m going into hospital for an operation, to hopefully fix my nose. I know, I know, I’m so gorgeous that it is pretty hard to imagine that anything was wrong with it, but apparently my alluring charm is only skin-deep, as up there somewhere, something is deviated. It makes me a lousy bed-partner, is all I can say on that score.
So, new job, new house, and someone is going to drug me unconscious and take a hammer and chisel to my face. This year is already looking up!
