I totally forgot to post about this when I read it, it looks like, but you should check out “Bear Creek Apartments” – even if you haven’t read or enjoyed Scott Pilgrim, O’Malley’s very famous comic book.
It is here: http://www.radiomaru.com/comics/short/bca/
It’s a genre defying piece of work, with Larson’s soft touch on the script and O’Malley’s stylised cartoon art belying the story’s deeper currents. O’Malley has done something new with his treatment of the art, too – the colour is lighter and the line thinner and more fragile than his usual work. Where his work normally evokes a slick skate-punk aesthetic, here it reminds me of the flat and oddly beautiful work of Jason.
It’s so difficult to imagine that there was once a time whenit seemed normal to send O’Malley a copy of a script on the off chance that he might want to draw it – he is deservedly getting so much attention now that it’s hard to remember that not long back, we moved in the same online circles!
