Honest to goshness, we haven’t watched a single movie in the last seven days.
I have been playing a bit on the Wii, having bought – yes, I know, a bit risky in these days of credit Crunchies and 50 billion bailouts, but renting seemed like I’d just be wasting my money – a new game.
It’s called deBlob, and it’s lots of fun. I picked it up because for some bizarre reason, Play.com were selling it at just over half-price – bizarre because it’s pretty good, got a fairly good review in Nintendo’s own magazine (considering it isn’t actually a Nintendo-produced game), and is a brand spanking new release.
If I finish it any time soon, I’ll probably post a review, but for now I’ll just say that it’s a ginchy, cute game with a
cool – albeit slightly sickly and faux-subversive – premise to the plot, and a control system that is intuitive and innovative, if sometimes a little frustrating. It’s basically like those old “paint-the-buildings” multiplayer challenges on “Tony Hawks Pro Skater”, but expanded out into it’s own full game, and there are some nice little quirks that balance out the gameplay and stop it being just another sandbox.
Okay, if I had to complain about anything right now, I’d have to say that the camera controls/automatic camera is sometimes a little bit shit. But you could say that of almost every 3D third-person game around these days, so it hardly seems worth mentioning.
Work has been a bit mental, it being at a University during the enrolment period, and actually, I’m hoping to take some time out soon and write up the FOTE Conference that some of you were unlucky to see me Twittering like a maniac about on Friday. It was a very interesting day, and I was uncharacteristically abuzz with thoughts about the day.
Yeah, right… I am unfortunately like that about almost everything. You don’t tend to see me write about it because it makes me distractable as hell, and I’m normally onto something else by the time I sit down to type. But this time, I have NOTES! Oh, yes.
Busytime at work means earphones on, and that means podcasts. This week, I’ve got myself addicted to the ramshackle delights of the One Life Left crew; they are a darling bunch of reprobates, who seem determined to do as much not talking about video games as is possible. Plus, there’s swearing, regular features including a poet whose delivery is unnerving and his subject matter wonderfully off-kilter and taboo, and very, very occasionally some interesting stuff about games.
Their website, and uh, feeds and stuff are here: http://www.onelifeleft.com/. Did I mention they had a girl presenter, too? They do. She sounds delightful.
There have been a few nice comic and comedy podcasts I’ve been listening to, too, but all the subscriptions are at work, and I can’t remember what all of them are called – I’m a busy man, you know, I can’t be expected to hold all of this extra stuff in my head.
So, anyway, hopefully by next week there will have been movies. Tomorrow for some songs, Friday for some TV – we’ve watched plenty. And next week I may even have read a bit more “Y – The Last Man”, because a couple of volumes of that turned up from eBay yesterday.
So, so, Peace out, y’all. I’ll catch you on the flipside.
