Incidentally, I feel like the hand-wringing going on about various shows’ viewing figures by the networks at the moment is so dysfunctional.

“The viewers are clearly there, because the election debates pulled in so many of them… but the figures on these shows has taken a massive dip”

Why is it such a shock that in a time of economic crisis, and with such an entertaining/important election going on, people are rushing to news outlets trying to get a sense of what’s going to happen to them next?

It’s true that Recession and Depression – the R & D everyone is talking about at the moment, are historically good for the entertainment industry long-term, but that’s once it’s settled down, and everyone is resigned to the fact that they’re fucked.

For now, they’re just trying to work out how fucked they are, who is responsible, and if there’s anything that they can do to unfuck themselves…

People haven’t got time for escapism right now – they still think they can escape for real. It’ll come, though.

I’ve been catching up this week, btw, so should be posting about it at some point in the weekend.

My on-the-spot analysis? Quality TV, with only the miscasting of Shirley Manson showing through as a real problem, though I hear that she gets better.

Plus, don’t worry… hardly anyone remembers/realises to use the Reply thing.

It only really helps to send out e-mails to the people you’re replying to, plus, you know, cool embedded replies! But it isn’t compulsory.

Ah, there are parts of everything that don’t quite work – but more action and more Cameron and Sarah makes me happy. I will have to hurry up and watch them.

I think they’ve been fabulous – I’m not sure what the haters are on about, since TSCC has worked to address the things people were complaining about last season: Sarah’s tougher and more upfront as the centre of the ensemble, there’s been more action, more terminators and more future war. Last week’s episode about Cameron’s past was fabulous and the season opener blew my socks off.

There were parts of episodes two and three that didn’t work but both brought great acting from Lena Headey and, in episode three, Dean Winters.

How have the new episodes measured up so far? I was pleasantly surprised by the first season – as is probably clear from my write-up – but I’d heard lacklustre things about the new season…

So far, FOX hasn’t cancelled TSCC and the show’s still in production but I get the feeling that they’ll be watching tonight’s numbers and the first episode back after baseball before deciding whether to order the back nine. SO, y’know, watching live would be really good. Especially if you’re a Nielsen family (or five).

I don’t tend to sleep all that much. Also, Girl One and I watch a lot of tv together, in lieu of finding a worthwhile hobby we can do together, or having kids.
