- @joshhechinger Oh man Oh man In Bruges. Hands down my favourite film so far these past 12 months. #
- Why yes, Universe, I DID want to spend my PM off & the rest of the night fiddling with a stubborn PC, & it STILL not working now. THANXYOU! #
- @steevbishop I am almost entirely with you on that one. Fuck them right in the ear. #
- Dammit! Now I want to vote on something! Plan to embark on a major sulk if I don’t get to throw my pebble in the pool of public opinion NOW! #
- So, is that right? Did the good guy win the election? Cool. Can we stop talking about it, now? I miss lolcats. #
- Although, seriously – well done, America. Though watch out – Black president/spurned loon lady candidate who likes guns… #
- … That’s an action movie plot that writes itself… (Slightly disturbed by the anti-US sentiment that is still apparently ok round here.) #
- Retweeting from – uh – someone: http://snurl.com/54wjn – Brother can’t catch a break. #
- @steevbishop Now maybe he can get his pesky terrorism friends under control properly, like. #
- Barrack Obama – he’s David Palmer and Jack Bauer all rolled into one. #
- Aww, man, @laineyw! Are you about today? Want a post election coffee? We can go to ‘Bucks n’ pretend we voted by not paying… #
- Hang on… @davidbaillie, is that your FIRST Future Shock that I saw on the shelf today? #
- @laineyw Oh, wow. Is that… the best lolcat ever? I can’t wait to hear what @sulman thinks… #
- @laineyw Dude, that’s the daytime teevee condition. You watch it because watching it means that you aren’t working… #
- @laineyw … So if the opposite of work is fun, your brain gets confused and thinks that daytime TV is fun. Even though it REALLY isn’t… #
- @laineyw Also, the upside to getting to WATCH The Wright Stuff is that it also means you aren’t ON The Wright Stuff. #
- @richjohnston I was thinking along the same lines. I wonder if the whole Blair experience maybe disqualifies us as objective observers… #
- “History is weird. There’s been a little too much of it around these last couple of decades.” #
- @laineyw Hm. So when did “protected” start sounding so much like a euphemism for “molested”? It’s a world gone topsy-turvey… #
- @richjohnston
A favourite topic of mine. Nobody seems to understand why anyone with a memory is so ambivalent about terrorisms in the UK. # - @richjohnston First thing my dad said on the phone the night after 911? “Wonder how the US will reconcile funding the IRA now?” #
- @laineyw Heh… you’d think it’d be one of those things that went without saying. #
- Baillie now says that the fuss was disproportionate. On a documentary about it on C5. Maybe SHE should think before she speaks in future. #
- @steevbishop I understand your residual guilt. You know what I always find makes it better? A WHOLE DAY of PORN! #
- @quirkybird Was just thinking this about a friend’s pregnancy. Taran is going to live in a world where there has ALWAYS been a black pres… #
- @quirkybird Currently ambivalent about Obama presidency, but that, right there, is worth the price of entry alone. #
- Not sure I like where this “Are you aspergers?” survey is going. On the plus side, I doubt it’s veracity. Which is just as well… #
- Hm. Low-ish Aspie score, which bears out what I thought already, anyway. Can anyone tell me what Neurotypical is? I am most likely that… #
- @laineyw Are they living piggie lives? #
- @josiefraser Are Tweetdeck and Twitterdeck the same thing? Can’t find a site for Twitterdeck. #
- @josiefraser Oh, gosh. Okaydoke. You use Tweetdeck, don’t you? Thinking of retiring Twhirl for a while, seeing if TD can help me. #
- @josiefraser Hm. Am in TD. So just closed down Twhirl. I feel strange, like I’ve just started cheating on a lover. Is that odd? #
- @josiefraser Thus far, Twhirl has the nicest footprint & pureness of function, but buggy as hell. Still loads stuff you’ve deleted on start. #
- Back from lunch, colleague asked whether I have calmed down. Apparently I was a bit hyper before. Hm. ToffeeNutLatte should help with that! #
- Oh, also – Starbucks have put their seasonal menu into FULL EFFECK! So ToffeeNutLatte is Back on teh AGENDA! Whoot! 360 degree headrush. #
- Hm. Been carrying this obviously duff £1 coin for days, now. Going to just chuck it. I feel the act will be good for my psyche. #
- Was getting anxious trying to work out what to do with it. But, you know, it’s ONLY a POUND… #
- Actually, good point @brianwood – What happens to ongoing books like DMZ that speculate off the present, if the present changes? #
- @brianwood I mean, people love an alternate history but right now DMZ is smartly prescient. Does writing it rely on things being fucked? #
- Course, getting elected was the easy part. Now it’s a matter of following through. Not just Obama, of course… #
- … There was an unspoken promise in how fired up Obama’s supporters have been, that they can’t just leave to POTUS to pull off. #
- & @emmavieceli is right – people around the world who have been vocal about the US election need to take part locally, too. #
- @Jimmykitty Ah, but your book – at least as far as I’ve got – works satirically & makes it’s point with parallels & proxys. It’s dystopic. #
- @Jimmykitty …Where DMZ stays much closer to the realistic & the current. I think? Alternate universe as opposed to allegorical one… #
- (I should add that both books are awesome, so this isn’t a criticism of either…) #
- Am I being naive? People keep talking Palin in four years, but I see her either in obscurity or a national joke by then. Mind, I’m daft. #
- @harrymylandIV Feel similar here. It’s akin to having a close friend smug about a new love. Kind of want it to work out… #
- @harrymylandIV … but pretty certain heartbreak imminent. It’s one of those lessons you can’t help feeling conflicted about them learning. #
- @harrymylandIV I mean, if WE (meaning the UK) had to go through it… #
- OH WOW! BBC just reported that Barrack Obama has won the election! Thanx, Auntie Beeb! I hadn’t heard…! #
- @davidwynne You’re close to saying stuff I agree with but I’m sure I read that Palin was foisted on McCain campaign. Thankfuck & justsaying! #
- RT @BeaucoupKevin: This picture made me laugh and laugh: http://is.gd/6plN I love Ron Paul! But it might be vicarious John Mahoney Love. #
- RT @gregveen: Irony is officially dead. Long live sincerity!!!!!!! #
- Hm. Michael Crichton dead? I didn’t even know he was sick. Never read his books, but difficult to ignore his contribution. Sad indeed. #
- Yes, correct – if you do a good job on your budget £2 chicken burger meal, I AM more likely to come back if I ever feel the need for kebab. #
- When did Martha Jones get so bitchy & smug? But… but I still love her! In case you’re wondering, Torchwood S2 catchup! #
- @davidbaillie Well done! In other news, you broke the ElephantWords Twitter feed with your stupid long title! Grin. #
- Aww… I’d forgotten Martha had her own theme. It’s prettier than Rose’s. But then, so was Martha. #
- SPOILER: OMG NO – OWEN IS DEAD! Oh, no, hang on, no he’s not. #

Another Way To Breathe: On The Disir
HEAVY SPOILERS FOR JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY 638

When I created the Disir back in SIEGE: LOKI and NEW MUTANTS 11, I knew the origin I gave wasn’t the…
Kieron Gillen is killing it on Journey Into Mystery. It’s process like this that’s the reason why. Inspiring.

Peach for godsgirls

Illustration by Victo Ngai for the fiction “Sweet Dreams” by Peter Stamm
“She went to the bathroom, filled the tub, and got undressed. The mirror misted over with condensation, and the smell of pine needles filled the air. She turned off the water, and the apartment suddenly seemed very quiet. Then she heard footsteps, and Simon’s voice through the half-open door. He said, I’ll just go downstairs for the bottle of wine. I thought you’d gone already, said Lara, and she poked her head through the crack, and he kissed her on the lips and tried to barge the door open, but she held it shut. They kissed again. See you soon, said Lara. It was odd, she still felt a little ashamed in front of him.”

This scene is one of my earliest comic memories. It was the first point at which I saw a comic character making a mistake, which meant it was probably the first time I really processed them properly as characters and human.
Spider-man has webbed up a doorway to stop a criminal escaping, but then realises that the criminal is escaping out of the window instead, and in his hurry to catch them he forgets his own webbing.
It seems gloriously ridiculous out of context, but if memory serves it was part of a pretty intense and dramatic story featuring Alex Summers (Havok).
(This was me, by the way.)
