- I don't feel good, mister. I feel real bad. In ma guts. #
- Comic stalwarts @nicwilco & @ryanklindsay, despite being very different, have avatars that register to my eye as the same. #
- …This can be confusing when one of them tweets & I'm not immediately sure who said it. One is a lovely Brit lady, other is a macho Oz man. #
- @ryanklindsay @NicWilko On my Tweetdeck you're both tiny! #
- @davidbaillie Oooh, I've been making assumptions about how it works when you invite someone, so if it's fidgetty I can find another way. #
- Difficult exchange just reminded me that there's world of difference between being a racist & saying something racist. Worth considering… #
- …when reacting to someone who's said something that's offended you, & also when being criticised. And no, it wasn't me who said it. #
- Dr appointment yesterday was 5 minute conversation after which I all but volunteered for something that people don't usually volunteer for. #
- …well, SOME people probably do. And others probably pay for it. But I mean, something that I wouldn't usually volunteer for. #
- @dan_hill Hah! No. Actually, thanks, that puts it in a much better perspective. #
- @NicWilko Oh man! Fuckery! As if life isn't confusing enough! @ryanklindsay #
- #twitterjoketrial is pretty awful & important, but am about to RT tweet about it that really tickled me in way that I think was unintended. #
- …I think the future of hyperbole might be in good hands. #twitterjoketrial #
- …That RT'd quote is pretty much why I do ANY sort of writing, including why I started using Twitter in the first place. #
- @budgie Oooh, hello. #
- @JamesMOMB Oh for fuck's sake. Why don't they start their OWN fucking shelter. Friendless fucks. #
- @emslj Have you seen this? I bet everyone has seen this: http://t.co/0mEHonky I'd never heard it before. it made me so happy. #
- @DavidUzumeri Why, aren't you enjoying him on FF?
# - @DavidUzumeri @JamesMOMB has been loving hard on his Marvel stuff, but it hasn't landed for me. Love his current creator-owned work, mind. #
- @ThoughtBubbleUK Uh… I have QUESTIONS. #
- @akirathedon @Darth_Mareecaba Dunno… don't some use it to describe something that they objectively KNOW is shit/bad for them/society? #
- @akirathedon @Darth_Mareecaba Seeing a few people railing against that at mo. Feels like attempt to shut down a perfectly workable phrase. #
- @akirathedon @Darth_Mareecaba (I don't tend to use it, but it's more cos I'm not organised enough about categorising my pleasures.) #
- THAT ISN'T WHAT RADICAL MEANS. Jesus, just cos investigative journalism/reportage is in such a piss-poor state, doesn't… no, never mind. #
- @Darth_Mareecaba For me it relates more to food. So many reasons not to eat at BK, but sometimes urges get better of me. @akirathedon #
- The b2w ep on passive aggressive behaviour was by far the funniest, most helpful thing @hotdogsladies has done in ages. #
- @Darth_Mareecaba Fuck, yeah, you HAVE to. Otherwise I'd never listen to @akirathedon or read @davidwynne's comics. #
- @Darth_Mareecaba Nearest analogue I guess is: If I watch even a second of Big Brother, TV companies will make more shows like Big Brother… #
- @Darth_Mareecaba …but the idea of there being more shows like Big Brother (& fewer shows like The Wire or whatever) is like diabetes. #
- @davidwynne This is starting to look dangerously like mathematics. @akirathedon @Darth_Mareecaba #
- @bimadew Sometimes for me emotional sting of a rejection is more about feeling dumb about having made any effort than hurt by the response. #
- @bimadew (I haven't been following rest of the converstion, just a gut response to your tweet about how knowing means little. #
- @bimadew COVNERSATION! Shit, conversation. #
- @davidwynne You don't just like me. You fucking LOVE me. Too late to be coy now, mister. #
- I like this Jake And Amir episode. Haven't watched one in ages. http://t.co/LJzV541l #
- @hermanos For a scary moment there, I thought you'd linked to an actual post about Before Watchmen. Psychological conditioning ftw. #
- @hermanos (LOVE that post, by the way. Never saw that scene before, but plays exactly into how I see MJ and how I see Peter Parker.) #
- @hermanos You've been fairly consistent with it, haven't you? But think this is the 1st time I followed link to a more trad comic page… #
- @hermanos …can't remember whether it was you who was dismayed about Slott's current characterisation of Parker, but this No-one Dies… #
- @hermanos …thing is really working for me, BECAUSE I see it as playing directly to the self-absorbed traits you describe there. #
- @hermanos I try not to predict stuff about stories, but a Parker breakdown is one of three Marvel scenes I expect to see quite soon. #
- @hermanos (Gwen was never my Parker-girl, actually. Mary-Jane, especially in that iteration, is just wonderful.) #
- @hermanos It's… risky. In keeping with a lot of other big stuff at Marvel over the last few years, & it's one of those things… #
- @hermanos …if it DOESN'T get as bad as it can get, the distance travelled from status-quo is just going to be irritating. #
- @hermanos (Also from continuity perspective it begs the question "why now?") #
- @lucypepper ALL THE TIME #
- @hermanos Like, why not after Aunt May died? Or why didn't Kraven's Last Hunt give him the breakdown? #
- @hermanos I've loved the execution of ASM over last several months, tho, so probably not objective. #
- @sispurrier Note: If it ended with "…in my pants." it probably isn't as good as you think it is. #
- @sispurrier Smirk! #
- Motherfucking Michael Ironside! Also dude offa BSG! http://t.co/TRacNM39 @GetGlue @Castle_ABC #
- @JamesMOMB Hah, dude, it's not uncommon. Me too! #
- @Cherry_Cinnamon Why not? It's been years… Only took them 10 years to remake Maltese Falcon. #
- @Cherry_Cinnamon Seriously, Highlander seems a bit redundant, Robocop a bad idea, but a lot of people thought Troopers wasn't a good adapt. #
- Deep cover! This is going to be about Deep Cover! http://t.co/TRacNM39 @GetGlue @Castle_ABC #
- Shit, just thought, I haven't seen Deep Cover in YEARS. #
- @Clarkythecruel What's up? Anything I might be able to help with? #
- @JamesMOMB Yeah, that's not gonna happen. #
- @Maxy_Barnard For us? WE DO! #
- @NicWilko @ryanklindsay Gah, so confusing! #
- @Maxy_Barnard Yay! #
- @Cherry_Cinnamon I loved it, but then I never read the book. Point being, if it wasn't a loyal adapt, no reason not to try again. #
- @kierongillen Hardly ever check Formspring. When I do, you're only person I see active on there. End up reading despite loads of UXM Qs… #
- @kierongillen …I've learned that I'm going to need to get uxm in tpb, comic fans don't understand how writing works, & i'm not daft. #
- @acheverton Exactly as I have come to understand it! @Cherry_Cinnamon #
- @Clarkythecruel …not an expert by far, but managed to get those two up and running! #
- @Clarkythecruel Hm. If you think MOMB or EW anything to go by, drop me an email with your thoughts… @thegrampus #
- @Cherry_Cinnamon …but I think it was more notorious than good. It got delay-banned cos of the terrorism & timing. #
- @Cherry_Cinnamon The bomb bit at the beginning was pretty striking at the time, it's reprise later worth sticking around for. #
- @Cherry_Cinnamon Huh, how funny. I didn't hear a thing about it til I was on holiday in Cyprus & it wasn't in UK cinemas any more. #
- @ryanklindsay @NicWilko Hah! #
- @kierongillen Awww, thanks. I think! Hopefully Marvel are collecting uxm in a way that makes sense! #
- @Cherry_Cinnamon (Mind, quite possible I just didn't read the sort of mags that'd have Halle Berry's boobs all over them.) #
- @Al_Ewing (Yeah, your expectations might be lower!) #
- @emslj My god, girl! Your home-day food experience is like totally the opposite of mine! #
- @Al_Ewing I've got the impression that he has quite deliberately phoned it in for Twilight. I think he thinks it's stupid. #
- @Al_Ewing …which should bother me but I actually find funny. Regardless, heard good things about him in Cosmopolis. #
- @emslj …actually, good point. I feel like I eat a lot at home, but it's in really spread out, forgetful bursts… #
- @emslj …whereas at work I eat & drink tea obsessively as distraction. #
- @hermanos There are a couple of scenes in today's asm ish that, following your post/our chat, make me think it's worth you taking a look. #
- @emslj Innit tho? Have we talked about it before? It's scary good. #
- @hermanos Hah, well, ok then. #

Wednesday 22nd May: “Tantrum recovery effort continues”
THIS IS THE NEWS!
(Fucking ace, as always.)

Game of Cats
Perfect.

History of mankind by Milo Manara

He said Star Trek is too “philosophical”? Screw that noise.
I don’t know when this interview happened but I AM SAD AND ANGRY NOW
The philosophies in Star Trek are kinda part of the actual setting. If you don’t get that, why are you allowed to make Star Trek movies.
Sigh. The whole point of Star Trek is that it’s philosophical. If you don’t want philosophical Science Fiction, there’s plenty of that for you to enjoy, but Star Trek is philosophical. Philosophy is part of Star Trek’s DNA, and if you’re given the captain’s chair, you’d better damn well respect that.
While you characters unbunch your panties, here’s a thing to consider: Abrams as a kid didn’t like Star Trek for being too philosophical. That’s an entirely legitimate reason for never having watched Star Trek as a kid. Abrams as an adult made a massively successful - both commercially and critically - Star Trek movie, which was both a sequel and a prequel and a reboot of a franchise dying on its arse.
I submit that the two are not entirely unrelated.
In fact, I’d go as far as to say that much - if not most - of the success, on every level, of J. J. Abrams’s Star Trek is precisely down to him not being a lifelong fan of the show.
When you cry and complain that Abrams shouldn’t have been allowed to make Star Trek films because he isn’t ‘one of us’; when you mock or criticise someone because their worldview isn’t yours, and you say it shouldn’t be allowed to intersect with yours; when you denigrate, rather than celebrate, diversity; when you desperately try to keep your part of the world clean and safe for yourself and don’t let the outsider and the alien in…
Then maybe the philosophy of Star Trek hasn’t taught you as much as you like to think it has.
I’m a pretty arrogant guy, so it isn’t often that someone says exactly what I was thinking, when I didn’t know it was exactly what I was thinking, and I can’t think of a single way to improve on it or amend it.
Oh, but for more rumination on fandom, you should definitely listen to Unanswered episode 11 - http://unansweredpodcast.wordpress.com/2013/05/01/show-11/
